It was basic stick welding with a 6012 rod. We did circles and lines, then an overlapping pattern over 3 plates. No pictures, but I found I was a little fast and when I got to the end of the electrode I shifted my hands too much. My spacing and control was okay though, overall though. I had one fun moment when the electrode got stuck to the plate and I couldn't get it off. Then the plate welded itself to the table when I lifted it up.

NICE. I've wanted to learn to weld for such a long time. This summer I'm finally moving into a house with a garage, so hopefully I'll be able to pick it up.

Reminding people not to weld to the tables was a daily thing for my welding instructor.
That, and hitting people on the head with filler rods.

I would love to get some trigger time doing this. I want to make a "stack of dimes" joint.
What's the potential for electric shock, btw?

another student welder? :D
I'm two weeks into semester two, still loving what I do. Stick is fantastic but wait till you try dual shield flux core, it's like easy mode

you're far more likely to get burned or blinded. I've got a patch of burn freckles on my left arm where my jacket's wearing thin

There's basically none. We use DC, so burns would be the only thing to worry about.

Yup. My first welding class. I'm probably going to do TIG and MIG next year. It'd actually pretty fun.
